Even without a car, numerous excursion destinations can be easily reached: During the season, our shuttle bus runs three times a day to Lübben and to Lübben train station – ideal for planning trips or arriving in a relaxed manner.
And for those who want to catch a bit of city air in between: Berlin is only about an hour away from Lübben – perfect for a day trip to the capital.
Another highlight of the region is the Tropical Islands, Europe's largest tropical holiday world under palm trees. To fish at the Groß Leuthener See, you need a fishing permit. You can obtain this on-site, for example at the Fischerhof Groß Leuthen or online through various providers. Additionally, the fishing fee stamp of the state of Brandenburg is required, which can be obtained at fishing shops, tourist information centres, or online.

Lübbenau Castle and Castle Park
Lübbenau Castle is the most important building in the town. It was built in the 16th century as a Renaissance castle and redesigned in the neoclassical style in the early 19th century. South of the town lies the castle, which has always been the seat of the Lynar family and now houses a castle hotel.
A walk through the expansive castle park with the castle, orangery, riding school and count's court office, as well as rare trees, is a special experience. The park, designed in the English landscape style, invites you to linger and relax – a green jewel in the heart of the Spreewald.
Historic Old Town and Nikolaikirche

The oldest open-air museum in Brandenburg offers a lively insight into the lives of the Sorbian/Wendish and German inhabitants of the Spreewald over 100 years ago. Four historical farmsteads from the entire Spreewald area invite you on a journey to the 19th century.
The Open-Air Museum has everything that has made the Spreewald famous: thatched wooden houses, Sorbian/Wendish costumes, and of course typical delicacies such as spicy horseradish and Spreewald gherkins. Especially for families, the museum is an experience: at the experience stations, visitors can wash laundry outdoors, learn to walk in wooden clogs, discover historical children's games, or skillfully milk a cow.
Leipe – the original island village
Another district of Lübbenau is Leipe, which is located on an 800-metre long and 400-metre wide sandbank in the middle of the Spreewald. The village was only accessible by boat until 1936 and only received a road connection in the 1960s.
The houses face the water, as the streams were once the "streets" of the village. Leipe is considered a hidden gem among photography and nature enthusiasts and is a particularly unspoilt Spreewald village with about 100 inhabitants.

The largest free-standing hall in the world
Tropical Islands is located in a former airship hangar that was originally built for the construction of Cargolifter airships. With a length of 360 metres, a width of 210 metres, and a height of 107 metres, it is the largest free-standing hall in the world. Since 2004, it has enchanted visitors as a tropical paradise with a constant air temperature of 26 degrees – regardless of weather and season.

The German capital Berlin is just a short train ride from Spreewald and a perfect destination for an exciting day trip or a long weekend. The main attractions
The Brandenburg Gate is the most famous landmark in Berlin and a symbol of German unity. The imposing sandstone gate was built between 1788 and 1791 and stood in the restricted area during the division of Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989, it became a symbol of reunification. Atop the gate sits the famous Quadriga, a sculpture of the goddess of victory, Victoria, with her four-horse chariot. The Brandenburg Gate is accessible 24 hours a day and is the perfect starting point for a city stroll.
The Reichstag with its impressive glass dome is just a few minutes' walk from the Brandenburg Gate. The walkable dome offers a fantastic 360-degree view over the city and the government district. From here, you can literally look down on the politicians while admiring the modern architecture of the building.
The TV Tower at Alexanderplatz is, at 368 metres, the tallest structure in Germany and the most distinctive landmark in Berlin. The observation deck in the tower's sphere rotates once around itself in an hour and offers spectacular views over the entire city. The TV Tower was built in the 1960s during the GDR era and is now an integral part of Berlin's skyline.
Checkpoint Charlie was the most famous border crossing between East and West Berlin during the division. The name comes from the NATO alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie). Today, a reconstructed guardhouse serves as a reminder of the Cold War era. The Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie impressively documents the history of the Berlin Wall and showcases spectacular escape attempts from the GDR – from homemade hot air balloons to modified cars and mini submarines.
The East Side Gallery is the longest open-air gallery in the world at 1.3 kilometres long. On this preserved section of the Berlin Wall, over 100 international artists have immortalised their works. The paintings were created from 1989, directly after the fall of the Wall, and are an impressive testament to freedom, hope, and change.

Märkische Heide – peace and nature right on your doorstep
The Eurocamp Spreewaldtor is located in the municipality of Märkische Heide in the district of Groß Leuthen – you are right in the middle of this beautiful region! The Märkische Heath is the perfect environment for those seeking peace, untouched nature, and authentic rural life. With over 200 square kilometres, the Märkische Heath is one of the largest municipalities in Germany and extends east of the Unterspreewald at the edge of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Spreewald.
A municipality of small villages
The Märkische Heide consists of 17 districts with picturesque small villages surrounded by forests, meadows, fields, and lakes. The administrative seat is located in Groß Leuthen, directly on the shore of the Groß Leuthener See.
Sorbisch-Wendish culture
The Märkische Heath partially belongs to the recognised settlement area of the Sorbs/Wends. The unique culture of this Slavic minority is still alive here today and shapes life in the region. Three Spreewald villages have a thousand-year history:Gröditsch, Pretschen and Leibchel – all three are worth a visit.
Stroll past the romantic half-timbered houses of Pretschen or admire the fieldstone church from the 15th century in Leibchel. These historic villages provide an authentic picture of traditional life in the Spreewald.
Schloss Groß Leuthen – a historical gem
On the shores of the Groß Leuthener See stands the Renaissance Schloss Groß Leuthen, surrounded by majestic trees. The repeatedly renovated castle was built on the foundations of a water castle from the 12th century. The Renaissance building was constructed in the 16th century and was expanded by an east wing in the 20th century.
The impressive castle is a defining landmark of the region and tells of the long history of Groß Leuthen. The castle is currently not open to the public and cannot be viewed from the outside, yet it is a significant historical building of the Märkische Heide.
